hundreds of new jobs are expected to be created with the opening of a new supermarket.
Contractors have been on site at Doncaster’s Firstpoint Business Park since May working on a new branch for Yorkshire-based supermarket giant Morrisons which is expected to open in January.
The project also includes a new “managed workspace” building, which will offer serviced premises to businesses, and a park-and-ride site for the town centre.
Firstpoint is controlled by Midlands-based property company Catesby Property Group, while the building work has been carried out by Thomas Vale Construction.
The site is close to White Rose Way, one of the main link roads from Doncaster town centre to the M18, which is currently being upgraded to a dual carriageway.
It is also alongside the town’s Woodfield Way, which is currently being extended to link to the A60 south of Doncaster near the Woodfield Plantation housing estate.
Paul Brocklehurst, chief executive of Catesby, said: “This new development is set to create many hundreds of new jobs in Doncaster and we are very pleased to be moving to a very successful conclusion on Catesby’s final piece of development land at Firstpoint.
“Firstpoint Business Park has played a very positive role in the economic regeneration of Doncaster and this latest phase will only serve to enhance that.
“Morrisons is obviously a big name and will boost the site. On top of that, our team have designed a very high quality managed workspace building which will provide a stunning base for Doncaster’s start up and SME businesses.”
The Firstpoint site is already home to internet shopping giant Amazon, a B&Q Warehouse, a Holiday Inn hotel, the Woodfield Farm pub and offices which host insurance giant One Call.
Morrisons development executive Andrew Cooper said: “We are delighted to be working with Catesby on this exciting opportunity for Doncaster. This is a great opportunity to bring local people all the benefits that make us different from the rest.
Paul Clarke, divisional director of Thomas Vale Construction, said: “We are very excited to be delivering this mixed-used development for Catesby Property Group and continuing our relationship with Morrisons to deliver the store elements of this project.
“This is a challenging programme but we are looking forward to completing the project on time by the end of this year and exceeding our client’s aspirations.”
