A MOTHER and son were among three Polish nationals living in Hull who died in a crash on the border of East and North Yorkshire, police said yesterday.

Two other people seriously injured in Wednesday morning’s fatal collision on the B1248 between Wetwang and Malton are also Polish and live in the same city.

North Yorkshire Police said the 40-year-old woman, her son, 18, and a 47-year-old man died after the Ford Focus they were travelling in collided head-on with a Citroen van.

All three, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were on their way to work at Karro Food Group, in Malton, formerly known as the Malton bacon factory.

A 30-year-old man who was also in the Ford Focus remains in a critical condition while a 37-year-old man is in a serious condition with multiple fractures. Both men are being treated at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The driver of the Citroen van, a 48-year-old man from Pickering who was taken to York District Hospital, has since been discharged.

Police said formal identification of those who died has not yet been completed and it maybe several days before their names are released.
