Tigers turn to Zamora as Fortune heads north
HULL CITY's search for new strikers suffered another setback yesterday when Marc-Antoine Fortune agreed to move to Celtic.
The Frenchman's decision came less than a week after Tigers target Michael Owen announced his shock move to Manchester United.
Manager Phil Brown will now focus his attentions on Fulham striker Bobby Zamora while hoping that Manchester United's Fraizer Campbell still opts for a return to the KC Stadium despite competition for his signature from Sunderland, Wigan Athletic and Newcastle United.
The Tigers have agreed to pay a fee of 6m for Campbell and will have to splash out another 4m for Zamora who has spent the last six years playing in the Premier League with Tottenham, West Ham United, and Fulham,.
He scored only two goals in 35 appearances, however, for Fulham last season and will be allowed to move on.
Hull charman Paul Duffen said: "We have an understanding with Fulham (about Zamora) but nothing will happen unless they get a striker in."
Manager Brown, meanwhile, said: "He is a player we're interested in.
"Bobby didn't do himself justice last year but he was part and parcel of a Fulham side that finished seventh in the table."
Brown had been quietly optimistic about landing Nancy striker Fortune who shot to attention last season during his loan spell with West Brom.
However, as soon as Celtic lured Albion manager Tony Mowbray north of the border, the scales began to tip against the Tigers.
