YORKSHIRE was revealed today as the most expensive region from which to fly to Europe - with Paris services costing up to two-and-a-half times as much as London flights.

Leeds-Bradford Airport was placed last on a “value list” which found that passengers flying from non-London airports were at a disadvantage on getting the best deals on flights.

The research by Idealo Flights revealed that the cost of a return flight to Paris for a Valentine’s Weekend getaway was up to 146% more expensive from provincial airports.

Katy Phillips of Idealo said: “There are many factors which determine the price of a flight, and prices tend to fluctuate on a regular basis. A potential reason for the London-centric flight prices found in our study is the competition that airlines face from the range of London airports.

“Add to this the fact that London carriers are also competing with Eurostar which takes passengers directly from St Pancras to Gare du Nord without all the extra airport waiting time. Winning passengers back from such an efficient service could be another reason for the lower ticket prices from London airports.”

She said passengers who wanted to get the cheapest deals should compare prices from as many airlines as possible and try to be flexible on dates.
