The Northern Rail service came to a halt between Halifax and Bradford shortly before 5pm today, with passengers reporting that the train crew had announced a family were on the tracks.

Babygirl tweeted: “Why did this family think it was a clever idea to get down onto the train tracks and delay all our trains?”

Robert Trowell said: “Actually gonna miss my coach because someone’s trespassing on the train tracks inbetween Halifax and Bradford.”

A Northern Rail spokeswoman confirmed that one of its train had been forced to stop for a short time due to trespassers.

She said British Transport Police were now investigating.
