THE Leeds-born celebrity chef Marco Pierre White is set to launch a new venue in Sheffield.

The TV chef’s latest venture, Marco’s New York Italian, opens on West Bar Street late March. He has appointed John Cluckie and Len Roberts as head chef and restaurant manager respectively.

Ireland-born John Cluckie has lived in Sheffield since 2004, has more than 15 years experience and has a strong Italian cooking background.

Restaurant manager Len Roberts started his catering career in the aviation sector where he worked his way up to cabin services manager for airline, Air Seychelles. He has also worked as a restaurant manager at the De Vere hotel group and Macdonald Hotels.

Marco Pierre White, 52, said: “We’re in the final stages of pre-opening and all set to hit the ground running when we open. The team is prepared and eager to start welcoming guests.

“John and Len are fantastic, their enthusiasm and ambition sets them apart and I’m confident they will deliver a great experience.

“We want Marco’s to raise the bar for New York Italian food in the city. It is a place for people to enjoy a bite to eat after work, dine with the family or get glammed up for a special occasion. It is an all occasion venue, there is no pretence about us, we simply want people to spend time with us and relax whilst enjoying some quality food.”

Mr Roberts said: “Marco is someone who inspired me to work in the catering and hospitality industry. I’m delighted to be a part of the team bringing his new restaurant concept to the city and delivering what he calls ‘affordable glamour.’ Sheffield is such a vibrant city and the restaurant is going to be a great new entry to the market.”
