DETECTIVES hunting for the killer of church organist Alan Greaves last night revealed that they wanted to speak to two men caught on CCTV who they believe may be able to assist them.
Lay preacher Mr Greaves, 68, a married father-of-four, was attacked on Christmas Eve on Greengate Lane, High Green, Sheffield, as he was on his way to midnight mass at the nearby St Saviour’s Church.
Police said he was treated by emergency services at the scene, but died as a result of the severe head injuries he had sustained in the brutal assault.
Det Supt Matt Fenwick, who is leading the investigation into Mr Greaves’s murder, is expected to give a detailed update on the inquiry on Monday.
Independent charity Crimestoppers has offered a reward of £10,000 to anyone who comes forward with information which helps to bring Mr Greaves’s killer to justice.
Anyone who can help should call the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555111.
