This CCTV footage shows the shocking moment officers were nearly mown down by a motorist they wanted to speak to in connection with suspected drug offences.
Benjamin Lee, 36, of Ashley Court, Burton, pulled his Peugeot into a parking space in Balfour Street on 2 February. Plain clothed officers immediately blocked him in and went to the driver’s door, opened it and announced they were police officers However, Lee ignored them and drove at them. An officer was thrown to the floor and another narrowly missed being crushed between Lee’s Peugeot and the police vehicle he repeatedly rammed. Lee made off but was later arrested. Today, Thursday 27 August, Lee appeared at Stafford Crown Court where he was sentenced to 20 months in prison and was banned from driving for five years.
