HUNGRY STRONGMEN stepped up to the plate in Leeds today as they tackled a king-sized eating challenge.
The world’s strongest man, Brian Shaw, and some of his rivals for the title received an invite to the Red’s True Barbecue restaurant in Headingley to try out a dish dubbed the Dino Rib.
It is a beef rib that’s half-a-metre in length, weighs 1.5kg and takes five hours to prepare in the restaurant’s specially-imported smokers.
The meal was dreamed up especially for Brian and co, who were in town getting ready for a strongman event taking place at Headingley Carnegie Stadium today.
A spokesman for Red’s said: “It’s a tough job when eating a huge plateful of barbecue meat is all in a day’s training for your career.” The Headingley branch of Red’s opened last month, with more than 900 people turning out for some free food on its launch night
Saturday’s event at Headingley Carnegie Stadium gets under way at noon, with gates opening at 10am.
