Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Gary Verity, who led the bid which secured the race for Yorkshire, said he was not expecting to receive an honour, despite several social media campaigns demanding one.
“I am not expecting to get any sort of gong, or whatever you want to call it. You can put money on it,” he said.
“I am not the most popular with the establishment and there are a lot of politicians who would quite happily not have had it happened like it did last weekend - but that is for them.”
Earlier, David Cameron in the Commons had heaped praise on Yorkshire’s hosting of the Grand Depart.
He said: “From the event organisers to all the great cyclists I think that the event has showcased the best of Yorkshire and the whole of what Britain has to offer and I was delighted to see such incredible support throughout the race.”
