Despite treatment by paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Yorkshire Police said a 48-year-old woman in the property was arrested in connection with the incident and is now in police custody for questioning.

A Police Community Support Officer remained on guard outside the flat today.

This afternoon a police spokesman said the post-mortem examination would be conducted tomorrow and it was hoped that the cause of death would then be revealed.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fountain, said: “We are continuing our investigations into this incident and a forensic post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death of this man.

“Further enquiries remain ongoing to determine precisely what has occurred.

“A woman remains in custody after being arrested in connection with the incident and at this time we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the matter.

“I would appeal to anyone who has information to contact Protective Services (Crime) on 101. Information can also be given to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
