Detectives believe the victim was followed all the way from a bank in Queen Victoria Square where he had withdrawn a large amount of money before walking to the bus station and getting a bus at around 5pm to Peel Street.

Once he left the bus he walked onto Cranbourne Street, then right onto Berkley Street where he was then approached by the suspect.

Detective Louise Cross, of Humberside Police, said: “The victim in this case is a vulnerable man who walks with a stick and has issues with his hearing and sight. I believe he was targeted and followed by a callous thief who saw him as an easy target after his visit to bank.

“To ensure that we get justice for the victim I’d urge the public to report any information about the offence, the person responsible or help in identifying the man on the CCTV. If you can help call 101 quoting crime reference number 2241330 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
