Walk back in time with chance to visit meadow left untouched for centuries

Last week Haddon Hall, Derbyshire, allowed visitors as a one-off to explore the wild Lathkill Meadow and take a step back in time exploring a unique piece of land untouched for centuries.

Now visitors will be able to enjoy its delights once again as part of special tours over the summer.

When all other fields were being ploughed up and ‘improved’, these 10 acres within the Peak District National Park were left to thrive in the most traditional way.

The meadow, which forms part of the ancient Haddon Estate and sits alongside the crystal clear River Lathkill in Derbyshire, has for centuries been left to exist in its purely natural state.

Lady Edward Manners, owner of Haddon Hall, said: “The Lathkill Meadow tour was a very special morning. It reminded me how incredible this ancient landscape is, and the unique situation of being left to thrive purely in its natural state for so many centuries added so much to the experience. We look forward to hosting more estate tours like this for visitors this summer.”

Countryside walks which include the meadow take place on June 27, July 13, August 9.
