TWO people died and a couple in their 50s were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a road crash near Harrogate.
The lunchtime crash happened on the B6165, Ripley to Pateley Bridge road, near Burnt Yates when a red Peugeot 306 heading towards Summerbridge collided with a green Audi A8 travelling in the opposite direction.
A 37-year-old woman, from Knaresborough, who was driving the Peugeot and her passenger, a man, 32, from Harrogate, both died at the scene.
The couple in the Audi, who are from Grassington and in their 50s, were taken to Harrogate District Hospital, with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Police said that they were expected to remain in hospital today.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened at 1.10pm on Tuesday.
Police closed the road for six hours.
Traffic Sgt Neil Campbell, said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or seen either vehicle prior to it, to come forward because I urgently need to speak to them."
