York beckons for Border
Borderlescott is on course to make the short 15-mile journey from trainer Robin Bastiman's Cowthorpe stables to York in search of Group One glory later this month.
Bastiman is considering the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes on August 22 for his popular, but luckless, sprinter following yet another brave effort in the Stewards' Cup.
The six-year-old was a highly-creditable third to William Haggas' duo Conquest and King's Apostle at Goodwood on Saturday, having taken the prestigious handicap in 2006 and just being touched off 12 months ago.
"I think he's going to run in the Nunthorpe. We might be aiming a bit high but the owner wants to go there and he's won the last twice he's run at York," said the North Yorkshire handler.
"We've run him in Group Ones before over a stiff six at Ascot and Newmarket. He's probably not that class but I think we'll give it a go because all these top sprinters run in and out all the time and he's genuine enough.
"He'll be somewhere knocking about and he would probably pick up some prize money. It's only down the road for him as well, so if I'm happy with him he'll go.
"He wants at least three weeks between his runs, we found that out, but we're only 20 minutes away so there'll be little travelling involved."
Borderlescott, a best-priced 20-1 for the Nunthorpe, was reported to have taken the Goodwood race in his stride.
"He's fine, he's eaten up and there's nothing wrong with him as usual. He's come back all right," Bastiman added.
"He ran his race, just beaten by a better handicapped winner. He's a grand little horse but those races are hard to win."
