IT ISN'T called God's Own County for nothing - from the majesty of the Dales, to the rugged backbone of the Pennines and the North York Moors' heather flecked beauty, Yorkshire's countryside is as diverse as it is picturesque.
But there's more to this region than beautiful countryside. As this exclusive video from the Yorkshire Film Archive and the Yorkshire Post reminds us, Yorkshire has long been an industrial powerhouse.

From the steel makers and master cutlers of Sheffield to Bradford's brooding textile mills, this region's contribution to the economy has been immense.

Our short film compiles archive documentary and intimate family reels to give a fascinating snapshot of Yorkshire over the last century, taking in cheerfully waving 1920s crowds crammed into football stadia, vintage panoramas of Whitby and York which remain fundamentally unchanged to this day and harvesting without the might of today's combines.

You can see this archive gem on a bigger screen at the Yorkshire Post's inaugural Yorkshire Day Festival, to be staged at Harewood House in Leeds.

The three-day festival runs from August 1 to 3 and will include everything from great regional food and drink to crafts, games and children's rides.
