A woman said to be the first surviving victim of the Yorkshire Ripper has died aged 75 in a hospital near Keighley.
Anne Rogulskyj, formerly Anna Rogulski, was left for dead in a doorway in a Keighley street on July 5, 1975 with a gaping head wound and her stomach slashed open. She had 12 hours' emergency surgery and a steel plate was fitted to her skull.
Mrs Rogulskyj was living in Highfield Lane, Keighley, at the time. Despite giving police a description of her attacker it was only two years later that officers linked the attack to serial killer Peter Sutcliffe.
He began his killing spree the following October with Wilma McCann's murder and killed a further 12 women. Mrs Rogulskyj later demanded her name be taken from the list of Yorkshire Ripper victims, most of whom worked as prostitutes. She claimed she had become the victim of spiteful gossip that led to her having to change her name and move home.
