JOANNE JACKSON is targeting personal bests rather than medals when she makes her second Olympics appearance next month.
The 21-year-old Northallerton swimmer contests the 200m and 400m freestyle as well as the 4x200m freestyle relay.

But she insists that setting better times rather than golden glory is her main aim.

"A medal would be a bonus but I'm going to Beijing to do as well as I can and try and improve my times," she said.

Jackson competed in Athens four years ago, getting knocked out in the heats of the 400m freestyle.

"I was only 17 and it was my first ever senior meeting," added Jackson.

Athletes like Jackson benefit from National Lottery funding which pays for the best coaches and support available to help them win medals for Great Britain.

Jackson said: "Winning medals is a full time task for me as an elite athlete and every time you buy a Lottery ticket, you are helping Olympic athletes fulfil their dreams of competing for Great Britain."
