ROTHERHAM sailor Paul Goodison is out to avenge the heartache of four years ago when he takes to the water in Beijing next month.
The 28-year-old World No 2 competes in the laser class and is one of the favourites for a gold medal.

And he can draw on the experiences of Athens 2004 when he contended in seven of the 10 races, only to miss out on a medal by finishing fourth.

"It's definitely something I can use as inspiration," said Goodison, who now lives in Weymouth, site of the 2012 Olympic sailing venue.

"It's a great motivation to make sure you don't suffer the same agony.

"I truly believe I can be No 1 and I just have to get that medal to prove that I can be."

Goodison is a lottery funded athlete.

He said: "Winning medals is a full time task for me as an elite athlete and every time you buy a Lottery ticket, you are helping me translate my gold medals in Olympic test events into the real thing."
