SHANAZE READE was not the only BMX star to suffer Beijing agony.
While the women's World No 1 crashed out on the final corner chasing an Olympic title, Britain's No 1 male rider could only watch the action on his television.
Kelvin Batey, 27, who lives in Rotherham, suffered a fall just weeks before the Olympic BMX trials at which he was a favourite to qualify as Britain's representative in Beijing.
The injury meant he missed the Games, but now that he's back to full fitness the Mansfield-born rider is plotting to jump for glory at the British, European and World Championships, with one eye already on London 2012.
Batey trains at the English Institute of Sport where he receives all the coaching and dietary advice he requires.
And when he just wants to get on his bike and practice some jumps and picking up speed, he heads to a purpose-built track near his home in Kimberworth, Rotherham.
