Police are hunting a man who carried out a serious sexual assault on a young woman in York.

The incident happened at around 2-2.30am yesterday on Haxby Road at the junction of Kitchener Street.

The victim, a woman in her 20s from York, is being supported by specialist police officers.

The offender is described as a bald man in his early 30s who had stubble and wore a dark coloured shirt or top.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in the area of Haxby and Kitchener Road between 1.30-2.30am yesterday is asked to call 101 and speak to the York Serious Crime Team at North Yorkshire Police.
