“I am really delighted to hear of Leslie Driffield’s Victory. I sent him a cable this morning, wishing him every success but I do not know if he will have received it yet.

He is probably the best player we have had in Yorkshire. I have not heard anything yet about the Association holding an official welcome on his return home but I should not be a bit surprised if we do.”

The Lord Mayor of Leeds Frank B. Burnley said that Leslie Driffield had brought great distinction to Leeds.

He felt sure that Leeds people would join with him in expressing congratulations to Mr. Driffield, which the Lord Mayor said, he would cable.
