Angling festival Cancelled

Because some Flamborough fishermen prefer to go crab fishing or continue on pleasure trip work, which they say are the more profitable, there will be no Flamborough Sea Angling Festival this year.

The Festival, which was to have been held towards the end of this month, has been cancelled.

A fisherman said yesterday that some of them had to leave their crab pots last year to take competitors out to fish, and it was not worth it.

He added: Other fishermen are trying to make up for the bad weather at the beginning of the year, and will continue to take people out on pleasure trips for as long as they can.

The theft of 70 commercial mine detonators from a drift mine at Huthwaite, Notts., was discovered yesterday.

Chief Inspector G. Thornton of mansfield CID stated.

“The detonators could be extremely dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced person.”
