IF AT first you don't suceed, follow Linda Green's example and carry on until you do.
Despite more than 110 rejections, the West Yorkshire-based journalist was determined to fulfill her childhood ambition to have a novel published so gritted her teeth against the polilte refusals and continued to write.

Her perseverence paid off and I Did a Bad Thing was published in February 2007 and is about to hit the shops in paperback.

In this OutLoud interview, Green discusses how close she came to giving up, how regional journalism proved to be the perfect source of humour for her book and how it feels to see her dream come true.

..........................

Linda Green spent 10 years working on regional newspapers having become a journalist so she could make a living from writing. She turned freelance in 1998, giving her time to work on a novel.

The turning point for her was meeting novelist Martyn Bedford at a writing workshop in West Yorkshire. Following his advice, she rewrote the book and finally gained herself an agent.

Finding a publisher proved more difficult, however, and reluctantly she gave up on her first book and began to write a second - I Did a Bad Thing. It was published in February 2007 and Green is underway with her third book, while still hoping to find a publisher for her first.

She lives in West Yorkshire with her husband, a press photographer, and their three-year-old son.

I Did a Bad Thing, £6.99, is published in paperback by Headline Review on October 18 2007, ISBN 978-0755333417

the book was wonderful-- i felt as if i was their in the story-- it really resembled my life not completely but quite and i could feel every emotion there.
am thinking about the book since i have read it-- and i am not feeling like reading any other book for a few days--- i don't know why but it seemed like i was watching a movie- it was all so much in front of me- the way every feeling and action has been expressed is fantastic, you can seriously live the moment--- it was the first book that had made me cry

i never used to read love stories thinking they are always sad but now am going to read them till they are going to have happy endings.

Picked this book up in our library and was totally taken by surprise when reading that it was set in my home town. Totally authentic so Linda must at some time have stayed here. Many thanks for a good read.
