REMATCHES are the theme this weekend as racing awaits a brilliant two days of sport that has something for everyone.

The 1-2-3 from the Derby at Epsom do battle in the Irish version at the Curragh; three of the main protaganists from a controversial Coronation Cup reappear in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud tomorrow; while Missoula and Bukit Tinggi, who were involved
in a tremendous finish to the Ascot Stakes, look closely matched as they return to action in a cracking Northumberland Plate at Newcastle. There's also an evening fixture at Doncaster where the ever popular Madness, who are playing after racing, are sure to attract a big crowd to Town Moor.

Yorkshire trainers may not have entries in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, but Anna Pavlova is engaged in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon and Peppertree Lane bids to add another Irish victory to his name in a Group 3 on the same card.

Our county's perennial Group-class sprinters, Tax Free and Desert Lord, are also engaged at Ireland's biggest Flat fixture. The former loves racing across the water and will be fancied to add to his tally in tomorrow's Group 3 Sapphire Stakes.

His trainer, Dandy Nicholls, along with Stillington handler David Barron also have entries in two of the meeting's premier handicaps and hopefully some of the massive prize-money on offer over the two days can wing its way back to Yorkshire.

There's no doubt that New Approach gained a deserved victory at Epsom, even though his success wasn't universally greeted with glee thanks to his trainer's reluctance to offer up correct information on his horse's preparation for the race.

Placed efforts in the Guineas at Newmarket and the Curragh suggested last year's top juvenile may not quite have attained the brilliance expected of him in his second year. However, Jim Bolger had him spot-on at Epsom and he proved his critics were well off the mark with a tremendous burst of pace to see off the Dante winner Tartan Bearer with Casual Conquest, who looked as though the experience was too much for him, struggling in third.

While expecting another big run from New Approach I believe the runner-up will make the greater progress and turn the tables. He wasn't quite as battle-hardened as the winner and his trainer Sir Michael Stoute has few equals in improving such high quality performers.

It should be a tremendous race, as should the Grand Prix tomorrow at Saint-Cloud where Soldier of Fortune and Youmzain, winner and runner-up in the Coronation Cup, again take on the home favourite Getaway, who was the victim of the Ballydoyle's team-plan at Epsom and could only finish fifth.

With the high-class Doctor Dino and last year's St Leger hero Lucarno also in the line-up it's the best all-aged race we have seen this season but Soldier of Fortune looked awesome at Epsom and should continue his winning ways.

The John Smith's Northumberland Plate has attracted an excellent field including Carte Diamond and Tilt, two classy stayers from the in-form yard of Norton-based Brian Ellison. John Dunlop's Double Banded wasn't suited by Chester last time and this track will be more to his liking but the Royal Ascot form should work out best.
