TWO Group 1 events at Newmarket allied to a fine supporting card kick-start a fantastic weekend's racing – Europe's answer to the Breeders' Cup extravaganza.
With Rainbow View and Fantasia missing, the 32Red.com Cheveley Park Stakes does not quite have the look of a top quality race this season nor in truth does the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes, though the latter race has attracted a couple of real 'dark h
orses.'
The fillies' race has plenty of entries but many of them have similar lines of form and the betting should take a wide range.
Jeremy Noseda has won the race twice and the local handler has two entered here. Adorn was a comfortable maiden winner last time but it is Mythical Border, a very good second in the Flying Childers at Doncaster last time, who carries the main stable hopes.
Barry Hills has his string in top form and Faraway Flower could repay each-way wagers in an open contest. Her second behind Bonnie Charlie at Doncaster last time was a very good effort and she looks just the type to improve further.
Bushranger looks the form pick in the Middle Park. David Wachman's colt beat one of today's rivals Gallagher in a Group 1 at Deauville last time and will take some beating though the likes of Finjaan and Huntsdown have the potential to do much better than they have shown so far.
Bankable was surprisingly beaten by Lady Gloria at Goodwood last time but should get back to winning ways in the Group 3 Nayef Joel Stakes.
Luca Cumani's colt had earlier produced the race of his life when runner-up to Raven's Pass over today's trip on the Sussex track and it must have been the longer trip that was responsible for that most recent failure.
Sir Michael Stoute has a brilliant record with late-maturing fillies and Ave looks just the type the stable do so well with. After just two runs in her career, she has shown the potential to do well at a high level and the Group 3 Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes looks a stepping stone to bigger and better things.
