AIDAN O'BRIEN and Seamus Heffernan teamed up to win another Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby as Frozen Fire came out on top in a messy renewal of the Curragh Classic yesterday.
The pair combined to win the race with Soldier Of Fortune 12 months ago, while O'Brien also saddled Dylan Thomas to gain top honours in 2006.

Frozen Fire (16-1) was one of many in with a chance as the field bunched up with around a furlong to run,
but found the most telling turn of foot as stablemate Alessandro Volta caused significant interference.

Casual Conquest passed the post in second, with Alessandro Volta in third.

A stewards' inquiry was soon announced but it did not affect the winner.
Alessandro Volta took over at the head of affairs soon after the principals entered the straight but even-money favourite Tartan Bearer travelled well just in behind the mount of Johnny Murtagh.

That pair and Luca Cumani's Curtain Call looked set to fight out the finish as they moved on with a couple of furlongs to run, but Murtagh's partner swerved violently under pressure.

Curtain Call seemed to be the worst affected as Fran Berry was forced to snatch up, while Ryan Moore was carried right on board Tartan Bearer.
However, there was no doubt Frozen Fire produced a tremendous turn of foot to assume command inside the distance.

He soon shot clear around the outside for an impressive two-length call.
Casual Conquest (4-1) stuck to his task in behind, but never quite looked like bagging the prize for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen, while Alessandro Volta picked up again once straightened to cross the line in third.

Following the inquiry, Alessandro Volta was demoted to fourth as Tartan Bearer moved up a place into third.

Earlier in the day, O'Brien and the Ballydoyle team suffered a reversal when short-priced favourite Soldier Of Fortune was beaten into second place by Youmzain in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.
Trainer Mick Channon was in buoyant mood following Youmzain's much-deserved victory in France.

He said: ''I'm very happy and absolutely delighted with this.
''I knew he was going there with a big a chance as he had been working well.

''We will now aim for the King George – the Arc will also be on his agenda.'

Yorkshire-trained runners had an excellent time at the Curragh over the two days with four placed efforts and a winner with Tax Free doing the honours for the in-form Dandy Nicholls in the Group 3 Sapphire Stakes yesterday.

Tax Free, a regular winner in Ireland, was ridden by the trainer's son Adrian who punched the air in delight as he passed the post for his second big victory of the weekend following Arc Bleu's success in the Northumberland Plate.

On Saturday, Anna Pavlova and Peppertree Lane had earned good prize money for connections in their respective races while Derby day began with placed efforts by Zero Tolerance and Northern Dare in Premier Handicaps.

Desert Lord also collected place money behind Tax Free making it a fine weekend's work for trainers from Yorkshire.
