It was a good day for Yorkshire clubs as there were wins for Hull City, both Sheffield clubs, Leeds, Doncaster and Huddersfield in the Football League.
Championship
Hull City 2 Scunthorpe 0Hull moved up into the Championship play-off places, after they eased to a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe in the the Humberside derby at the KC Stadium.
Henrik Pedersen gave the Tigers the lead in the 27th minute, and Michael Turner added a second 10 minutes later to secure the points - which left the Iron six points short of safety.
Plymouth 0 Sheffield United 1James Beattie headed home the winner in the second half to give the Blades all three points at Home Park. The result all but ensures United's survival in the Championship, but Argyle slipped out of the play-off places.
Sheffield Wednesday 2 QPR 1Sheffield Wednesday boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 win over a QPR side reduced to 10 men at Hillsborough.
Damien Delaney (15) put Rangers ahead, but Graham Kavanagh levelled the scores on the stroke of half-time. Deon Burton converted a 52nd-minute penalty to put the Owls ahead, and Hogan Ephraim was sent off for violent conduct in added time.
League One
Doncaster 2 Port Vale 1Mark McCammon and Paul Heffernan grabbed a goal apiece to help Doncaster to a 2-1 win over Port Vale which kept them in the automatic promotion places in Coca-Cola League One.
Heffernan (11) had opened the scoring for Rovers and striker partner McCammon doubled the advantage eight minutes later.
Bottom side Vale pulled a goal back in the 34th minute through midfielder Danny Whitaker but, despite late pressure, were unable to find an equaliser.
Leeds Utd 2 Bournemouth 0Leeds extended their unbeaten run to five games and moved to within a point of the play-off places after beating lowly Bournemouth at Elland Road. Bradley Johnson (11) and Neil Kilkenny (63) gave Leeds victory.
Leyton Orient 0 Huddersfield Town 1Play-off hopefuls Leyton Orient suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Huddersfield after Luke Beckett's 75th-minute winner. Terriers midfielder Malvin Kamara had earlier laid on two chances for Phil Jevons, but the striker wasted both.
League Two
Shrewsbury 1 Rotherham 1Rotherham had to settle for a point against managerless Shrewsbury. The Millers took the lead through Pablo Mills's header but Ben Davies levelled when he drilled home from James Constable's quickly-taken free-kick.
Stockport 2 Bradford 1Stockport leapfrogged Rotherham into a play-off place with a 2-1 win at home to Bradford. Defender Michael Rose grabbed the Hatters' 79th-minute winner, completing their comeback - after veteran striker Peter Thorne (53) had put the Bantams in front with a penalty and Anthony Pilkington (69) equalised.
Blue Square PremierHalifax Town recorded their first away win since November to dent Histon's play-off hopes after a 3-1 victory.
Danny Forrest rattled the Histon crossbar before Tom Clarke headed home Matt Doughty's 32nd-minute corner. Halifax made it 2-0 when Gareth Davies turned in Simon Heslop's cross from 12 yards and Anthony Griffith tucked home a third from close range.
Histon made it 3-1 when Antonio Murray smashed in a superb long-range drive.
Farsely Celtic shocked promotion hopefuls Cambridge United coming from behind to win 2-1. The deadlock was broken when Lee Boylan smashed home his 10th goal of the season from close range.
But the hosts were rewarded for a hard-working performance when Stephen Downes's cross was headed home by Damien Reeves. And Cambridge were stunned as Dominic Krief's cross from the left went straight in past bemused Danny Potter.
