Midfielder Steve Watson returns after being rested in midweek and striker Francis Jeffers is available after making his first appearance of the season as a midweek substitute. Defenders Frank Simek (ankle) and Richard Hinds (broken leg) and striker Akpo Sodje (knee) remain long term absentees.

Southampton v BarnsleyTeam news: Brazilian midfielder Anderson De Silva is pushing for a first start of the season after seven months recovering from knee surgery.
Winger Martin Devaney has recovered from the virus that forced him to miss the midweek defeat to Cardiff City but Michael Coulson and Maceo Rigters are still unavailable due to injuries.
Simon Davey: "Everybody has a bad spell now and again but we have to stay strong, stay positive and keep the players positive."
