ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Mark Robins hopes to land a money-spinning tie against a top Premier League club in the third round of the Carling Cup.
The Millers have reached the third round of the competition for the first time in five years after pulling off shock victories over Championship clubs Shefield Wednesday and Wolves.

With the possibility of playing Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool now on the cards, Robins is desperate for the Millers to hit the financial jackpot.

"We just want a big money-spinning draw," he admitted. "No one should underestimate what we have already done – knocking out two Championship clubs is a feat – but if we can get a Premier League club in the next round it would be great for the coffers."

The Millers exited administration for the third time in less than two years this summer and were subsequently docked 17 points by the Football League for failing to comply with the insolvency policy.

However, after opening the league campaign with maximum points from the first three games, the Millers are already up to minus eight points and seven points clear of the relegation positions occupied by Bournemouth and Luton, who have also suffered points deductions.

Robins is determined to keep his players' feet on the ground. "What the players have been through has made them mentally stronger," he said. "I hoped that would happen and, thankfully, it looks to have galvanised us.

"I am delighted with the way things are going so far but we have to hang on to it for dear life because we know how quickly things can change in football."

With the support of new owner Tony Stewart, the Millers have quickly assembled a new squad which appears equipped to make up lost ground in the League Two promotion race.

Former Swindon defender Andrew Nicholas was signed just hours before the second-round victory over Wolves and former Norwich City striker Drewe Broughton was signed on a short-term deal a week earlier.

Robins is also keen to sign former Millers striker Richie Barker from Hartlepool United

"We are getting a fairly big squad together now," added Robins.

"We have quality players right through the squad and the Carling Cup result gives everybody confidence in the job they are doing and confidence in their own abilities."

The Millers will be joined in the third-round draw by Yorkshire neighbours Leeds United and Sheffield United.

Leeds manager Gary McAllister has expressed no preferred choice of opponent saying the club will take whatever comes their way.

The draw for the last 32 clubs takes place at noon on Saturday lunchtime and will be screened live on both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports News.
