ROTHERHAM United will have to lodge a £750,000 bond with the Football League in order to start the season at a temporary home.
The cash-strapped Millers, who have yet to exit admininstration, are moving to Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium after quitting Millmoor in a dispute over the rent with landlord and former chairman Ken Booth.
Prospective new owner Tony Stewart has me
t with League officials and outlined his plans, but still has to submit a complete application.
The League have stressed that the Millers need to lodge the bond and pay off creditors or risk starting the season with a 15-point penalty.
In addition, the bond would only be paid back to the club providing they returned to a ground in Rotherham before summer 2012.
Millers chief executive Paul Douglas said: "We are working closely with the League on various issues and were caught a little by surprise by this statement.
"However, we have re-assured them that our intention to move back to Rotherham is genuine," he added.
"We accept that there will have to be a financial commitment from the club to prove our intention – but we would then hope to arrive at an amount that is reasonable and not prohibitive."
Both Douglas and Stewart are now part of a new steering committee which has been set up to prepare the groundwork for a proposed new 15,000 capacity community stadium at Parkgate.
Others on the committee include Rotherham Titans rugby directors Martin Jenkinson and Alan McHale, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council's chief executive Mike Cuff and the council's director of planning and transportation Karl Battersby.
