The Dragons drew level four times but hit the front only 10 minutes from the end when Thomas Bosc's penalty made it 22-20 – and they hung on for a precious victory that clinched a home tie in the Super League play-offs.

"We needed the two points – they were vital for us," said Potter.

"We still have a little bit of work to do, though.

"I was confident right through the game but I was never relaxed because we were always under pressure. It was a hard-fought contest, and conditions played a part in how close it was."

The Catalans' hero was stand-off Adam Mogg, who scored two of his side's four tries, including the crucial second-half effort that made it 20-20.

"Adam is a very good player who does not get the recognition he deserves," added Potter.

"He is vital player and he's going to be good for Catalans for the next three years."

Catalans' first win in four matches was achieved despite injuries to Mogg (shoulder), David Ferriol (abductor) and Gregory Mounis (shoulder).

Huddersfield's first defeat in four matches effectively ended their slender play-offs hopes, although caretaker coach Paul Anderson insisted his side will not give up until it is mathematically impossible to catch sixth-placed Bradford.

"We are very disappointed because we feel we should have won the game," said Anderson.

"But we weren't patient enough and were not prepared to stick in the arm wrestle for 80 minutes.

"A lot of things have got to fall in place for us to make the play-offs, but it's not end of it. It may be a long shot. But we've got to have some focus, and that's still our aim at the moment."
