THE family of Don Fox have paid tribute to the rugby league world for the kindness shown to them following the death of a true sporting legend.

Fox, the former Featherstone, Wakefield and Great Britain player, died recently after a long illness, 40 years after his Lance Todd Trophy-winning performance in the famous 'Watersplash' final at Wembley. He was 72.

In a statement, Fox's widow Mar
y, son Gregory, daughter-in-law Tracy and grand-daughter Lauren said: "We would like to convey our most sincere thanks to relatives, friends, supporters and the world of rugby league for their kind messages of condolence and wonderful tributes following the recent sad loss of Don. This overwhelming support has been of great comfort to us all at this difficult time.

"Special thanks are extended to those who have assisted in caring for Don over the last few years and those who attended his funeral service donating so generously in lieu of flowers to the Prince of Wales Hospice – an amount totalling £614.80.

"Many thanks also to Father Peter Bostock of St Luke's Church, Sharlston for his sensitive service. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Sharlston and Featherstone male voice choirs conducted by Paul Rhodes and accompanied by organist Colin Malpass. Your presence provided a moving and lasting contribution to a wonderful heart-felt service for a truly special man."
