HULL Kingston Rovers chairman Neil Hudgell has hailed the club's achievement in reaching a "small but significant milestone" with Sunday's thrilling 36-34 victory at Warrington.
The win means Rovers have beaten every Super League club since their promotion at the end of 2007 and offers yet more proof that the east Hull club have the potential to revisit old glories.

With two rounds of the regular season remaining Hull KR
could yet make it into the Super League play-offs – they are just three points behind the team immediately above them in sixth place, Bradford Bulls, whom they meet at Odsal next Monday – leaving Hudgell delighted by the progress made in the last three years.

"Our journey in the last few years has been a series of short, meaningful steps and Sunday's win, like the fact that we will finish above Hull, is another small but significant milestone," said Hudgell. "Going forward we know there are no 'bogey clubs' in the competition and that's important in the great scheme of things.

"Our goals at the start of this season were to secure a Super League licence and to consolidate. The worst we can finish is 10th, which would be a tiny advance on last year, but there is a chance we could make the top-six.

"It's unlikely because Bradford would have to lose at Castleford in the last round (assuming we beat them next week) but even if we end the year seventh or eighth that's a marvellous achievement given the size of our squad."

Like most clubs, Rovers have suffered with injuries this summer but the loss of key players has had a more noted impact on a squad that is just 20 senior players strong. The release in mid-season of the hugely influential James Webster and the long-running problems surrounding their chief playmaker, Paul Cooke, have also threatened to arrest their development as a top flight club.

"We've not used injuries as an excuse this year but it's fair to say they have taken their toll," said Hudgell, who feels 2009 represents Rovers' most challenging season as a Super League club.

"We should all feel pride at where we are considering where we have come from but the acid test will come next year when the goal has to be making the top six.

"I seen no reason why that shouldn't happen, not least because of the continuity we are set to benefit from for the first time. With a proper pre-season under our belt there is every reason for us to make progress."

Rovers have yet to see the potential that exists in their half-back pairing of Cooke and Michael Dobson, the Australian scrum-half signed as a replacement for Webster, and Hudgell has high hopes for the pair, especially if Cooke carries out his promise to clean up his lifestyle.

The stand-off helped set up two of the three tries that saw the Robins overturn a 34-18 deficit in the closing eight minutes at Warrington on Sunday when Dobson stepped up to land the winning conversion from the touchline.

"It's ironic what a difference a couple of weeks makes," said Hudgell, referring to the positive influence Cooke has had since being welcomed back into the fold after apologising for his conduct last month when he was dropped for turning up for training in an unfit state.

"As well as everything that's going on on the field we have some exciting announcements in the pipeline about where we're going off it.

"We have all worked hard to get to where we are and I'm confident everyone will work harder still to get the club where it deserves to be."

Castleford hooker Scott Moore has been ordered to appear before tonight's meeting of the RFL disciplinary committee after being cited for illegal use of the forearm on Leeds captain Kevin Sinfield during the Tigers' 54-12 defeat at Leeds.

Moore will be joined tonight by Wigan full-back Richie Mathers, who was sent off in the win against Wakefield for striking with the forearm, and Catalans second row Jamal Fakir (reckless high tackle).
