AN elusive first win of the Co-operative National League One season is unlikely to come for Dewsbury when they head to title-chasing Halifax under caretaker-coach Warren Jowitt.

The former Bradford second row has been put in temporary charge following the dismissal of Andy Kelly on Monday but he is unlikely to make a winning start against opponents who are looking to draw level with Salford at the top.

Jowitt gives a debu
t to Ryan Smith, a teenage half-back on loan from Castleford, and is looking for the established players to prove themselves after last week's embarrassing Cup defeat by Oldham.

"As far as I'm concerned, last Sunday never happened, it's a fresh start, I shall judge the players after this weekend," said Jowitt, whose business commitments prevent him from seeking the job on a full-time basis.

The front-runners for the vacancy are former Dewsbury scrum-half Barry Eaton, who has led Keighley to the top of National Two, and ex-Hull KR and Sheffield Eagles coach Gary Wilkinson.

Halifax are missing Sean Penkywicz and Mick Govin and could draft in Mike Ratu, Andy Smith and Danny Heaton.

Paul Mennell, Oli Marns, Andy Boothroyd, Byron Smith and Jamie Stokes make timely returns for Batley at home to Whitehaven.

Featherstone head for Leigh with a full strength squad; and former Bradford Academy forward Alex Szostak could make his debut for Sheffield Eagles at Widnes.
