HE is £300 poorer, but for Danny McGuire it was a price worth paying after the Leeds Rhinos stand-off was given all the all-clear to play against St Helens in Saturday's Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final at Huddersfield.
Although the RFL disciplinary committee found him guilty of a high tackle on Catalans centre Sebastien Raguin, McGuire avoided suspension and was instead fined, much to the relief of his coach Brian McClennan.
"Danny is an important part of our pl
ans and we are very happy that the judiciary saw fit not to ban him," said McClennan, who is still facing doubts over the fitness of New Zealand Test full-back Brent Webb (back).
McGuire has been in scintillating form this season and will be a key figure for Leeds as they seek to book a place in what would be their 21st Challenge Cup final appearance.
"It's going to be the biggest game of the season so far and it's great that I have the chance to play in it," said McGuire, who scored two tries as the Rhinos warmed up for the semi-final with a 37-24 victory in Perpignan last Saturday.
"It's going to be tough, we have no doubt about that because games between the two clubs always are and they are the competition's form team with 15 wins on the bounce.
"However, this is a semi-final so past history goes in the gutter because it's all about who performs well on the day and who does the little things best.
"There's a big carrot dangling in the chance to play at Wembley and we're all desperate to get there. We've spoken about Wembley a lot this year, maybe too much at times, but it's such a big occasion.
"We've been building towards it all season long and I know that come Saturday everybody is going to know exactly what they need to do to get us there."
Castleford Tigers' new signing Mitchell Sargent has finally received the paperwork allowing him to join the Super League club after a two-month delay and will fly in from Australia later this week. The Newcastle Knights forward is set to make his debut at home to Huddersfield on Sunday week.
