Leeds Carnegie have sent out of clear message of intent to their National League One rivals, according to head coach Neil Back after London Welsh were blown away at Old Deer Park.
Having already edged past Exeter Chiefs, Leeds dismissed the challenge of London Welsh, running in five tries, with Hendre Fourie touching down for his seventh of the campaign and Jon Goodridge crossing for the pick of Leeds' haul in the last minute.

"To nil a side of the quality of London Welsh is a big statement in this league," said Back. "On the back of doing that last week against Manchester, not many people would have probably taken note because of where they are in the league, but I think today sent out a big statement that Leeds are very confident now and running on a high.

"I think the careful planning and the hard work that the guys have put in is now starting to pay off. They're beginning to believe in themselves, they're beginning to show a great deal of confidence."

With first use of a strong wind at their backs, Leeds took full advantage as they opened up
a 17-point lead by the break, and this always looked beyond the home side's powers of recovery.

Alberto Di Barnardo followed his third-minute penalty by slotting over the first of his four conversions after Leeds were suddenly presented with a five on two overlap, Leigh Hinton the beneficiary.

Fourie barged his way over from close range for Leeds' second try, but it was Scott Barrow's score which settled the issue four minutes into the second half, as the centre won the race to Di Barnardo's delicate chip through.

The bonus point was secured when Leeds were awarded a penalty try following a five-metre scrum, and although Welsh pressed late on it was Leeds who had the final word as Goodridge finished off a sweeping breakout.
