It was the most successful education authority in the north of England and was beaten only by Herefordshire.
Greenhead College in Huddersfield was named as one of the strongest performing state schools in the country for its
A-level results.
The majority of state schools in the top 200 league table were selective grammar schools with sixth forms of around 100 to 150 students.
But Greenhead has more than 800 students and its only entry requirement is that students have at least five Cs at GCSE. The college was named 30th best state school for A-levels and second best in Yorkshire behind Ermysted's Grammar School in Skipton.
Greenhead principal Martin Rostron said: "These young people have given themselves a great start in life.
"We treat our students as young adults who have made a break from school at 16 and are very focused."
Councillor Jim Dodds, Kirklees Council's cabinet member for children and young people's services, said: "Our results show the hard work that goes in from the pupils themselves and the teaching staff and I am delighted.
"Greenhead's position in the table shows the standards the college has set for itself."
