It is also named in the worst 10 schools for truancy, with pupils missing 8.5 per cent of half days and it is rated as the third worst for improving its students' performance.

Government inspectors found the Ridings to be failing last January and placed it in special measures for the second time.

Calderdale Council is now in the process of closing the school by September 2009 when the remaining pupils will be transferred to neighbouring schools.

The Ridings is one of three schools in Calderdale to be named in the worst 200 in the country for GCSE results in today's tables along with St Catherine's Catholic High School in Halifax and Park Lane High School in Exley.

South Leeds High School was the worst in the region, with just seven per cent of pupils getting five good GCSEs including English and maths.
