BARNSLEY striker Iain Hume is likely to drop the threat of legal action against Sheffield United defender Chris Morgan after recovering from a fractured skull.

Lawyers representing the Canadian international had investigated the possibility of sueing Morgan, whose elbow-led challenge resulted in the injury seven months ago.

However, Hume says he is now fully fit and ready to start the new season which means his career is safe.

"As soon as pre-season starts, I am back in my eyes and hopefully in the gaffer's," he said. "I do not care whether I play in pre-season or at the start of the new campaign – you will see a completely different Iain Hume around the place as soon as I get to put that Barnsley shirt on again."

Barnsley paid £1.2m to sign Hume from Leicester City last summer but he had managed just 16 games and scored four goals before the controversial incident in a South Yorkshire derby at Oakwell.

"I have a lot to prove to people who have given me their amazing support," he said. "I did not give the Barnsley fans much reason to get behind me in the way they have done because I never really got the chance to show them what I can do.

"That support has been phenomenal and I have a lot to repay them for. You will get that out of me when I am back on the pitch. I still have everything to prove to them."

Barnsley goalkeeper Heinz Muller is returning to his native Germany to join promoted Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05 in a £430,000 deal.

Muller, who joined Barnsley from Norwegian club Lillestrom two years ago, lost his place in the final weeks of last season and his replacement, Luke Steele, has been rewarded with a new two-year deal.

Manager Simon Davey will step up the search for cover after releasing Kyle Letheren.

Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark has swooped for Southend defender Peter Clarke.

The former Everton and Blackpool centre-back, 27, is out of contract at Roots Hall and will sign a three-year deal subject to completing a medical.

"It has been quite an easy decision to make, given the ambition and enthusiasm of the manager, the chairman and the staff," said Clarke. "I want to play at the highest level I possibly can, which is how it should be, and given that the ambition of the club matches my own ambition the decision was an easy one."

Manager Clark said: "He is a leader, which is what I want throughout the spine of my side. We need strong, aggressive players who will not be pushed aside when it comes to the physical element of the game because then the good footballers we have will be able to get on the ball more."

Town striker Danny Cadamarteri has joined Scottish Premier League club Dundee United.
