IT'S the final weekend of the football season, and Sheffield United can still sneak a place in the play-offs with victory at Southampton, allied with Crystal Palace, Ipswich and Wolves all tripping up.
Here the experts have their say, a fan, an ex-player and the Yorkshire Post's football writer Ian Apopleyard.

Ex-player: Keith Edwards (1975-78, 1981-86)

Play-off qualification is a big ask, but it is still fantastic that the c
lub has finished the season on such a high note. It would be ironic if fortune smiles on the club this season after what happened 12 months ago.

No one expected us to go down, but West Ham beat Manchester United, we lost to Wigan, and a former player David Unsworth scored the winner. I hope the story will go in our favour this time when no one expects us to go up. I fear we need too many teams to slip up, though.

Fan's view: Richard Batho, Blades Online

I would love to say we will get in the play-offs, but I just can't see Wolves and Crystal Palace slipping up. I think Ipswich have the hardest game against Hull and I think Watford will lose to Blackpool – but that still leaves us finishing seventh.

If that is the case, so be it; I will still be feeling thrilled because there will be just 14 weeks to go before the start of next season and, as we are playing well enough to beat anybody under Kevin Blackwell, I'm putting my money on us for the title.

Yorkshire Post Verdict: Ian Appleyard

If only chairman Kevin McCabe had sacked Bryan Robson a few games earlier, I'm sure the Blades would have gatecrashed this season's play-off party.

Although Kevin Blackwell's arrival breathed new life into the club, it happened marginally too late to bridge the gap that had developed in the League table. The Blades will win at Southampton, but I think Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace and Watford will just do enough to finish fifth and sixth respectively.
