BRIAN LAWS is hoping Sheffield Wednesday can follow the example of Bristol City last season by becoming the surprise package of this season's Championship.
The Owls sit fifth after Tuesday night's victory over Nottingham Forest sealed the club's best start since being relegated from the Premier League in 2000.

Laws has been hugely encouraged by his side's start and is pointing to the success enjoyed by Gary Johnson's Robins side last term when they came within 90 minutes of reaching the Premier League.

He said: "It is a big week for us because there are nine points at stake in seven days. To get six points from two games has been tremendous. If we can make it nine points, it will be phenomenal – particularly going into the international break.

"There is a good sense of belief in the camp."

On the Owls' lofty position after claiming 15 points from the opening nine games, Laws added: "It is nice to be where we are. But I am not getting carried away as there are still another 30-odd games to go. We just want to keep the momentum going. You never know where it will take you.

"It is almost a decade since we had a run as good as this and it is a role-reversal compared to last year.

"Now, we have to continue it. You never know. I appreciate it is a small squad and it is important we do not pick up too many injuries, but look what happened with Bristol City. Everyone thought they would blow up, but they didn't."

Richard Wood (groin) is expected to recover to face Plymouth on Saturday.
