BRIAN LAWS was relieved to see the Owls claim a point after his 70th-minute substitute, Steve Watson, headed the equaliser.
"We were not at our best and I was quite glad we only went in one down at the interval," said Wednesday manager Laws.
"Swansea are a team and a club on the up. They have good players, terrific support and they gave us a hard time particularly in that first half.
"But it shows we are making progress because last season we would have lost that game."
A cracking strike by Ferrie Bodde should have won the game for dominant Swansea, but veteran Watson denied them.
Disappointed Swans manager Roberto Martinez said: "We controlled the whole game and created enough chances but in the end we have dropped two points.
"The performance by the players deserved a victory and at the moment they are all feeling very disappointed with the result.
"When you are unhappy because you have only won a point against a club like Sheffield Wednesday it shows just how far this club has come in recent seasons."
Swansea started with the same line-up that won at Plymouth on their last league outing and with Thomas Butler and Mark Gower receiving plenty of ball out wide, the Owls were pinned back for long periods.
It was no surprise when the Swans went ahead when Bodde picked up a loose ball 30 yards out. He took a couple of steps before drilling a low shot beyond Lee Grant.
The Swans were dominant and Owls defender Mark Beevers had to make two super tackles in the area to deny both Jason Scotland and Gower.
In the second period, the Swans maintained the pressure but Laws then made his telling substitution and with his first touch of the ball Watson nodded his side level, meeting a delicate chip from Marcus Tudgay.
Both sides struck the woodwork in a frantic finish.
