HULL CITY have to settle for third place, Sheffield United missed out on the play-offs but Sheffield Wednesday have survived.
It was an eventful final day in the Championship with Stoke City securing promotion and Leicester City being relegated.

Here is a timeline of the goals going in and what they meant.

2 min: Ipswich 0 Hull 0 - Shefki Kuqi goal ruled out for offside.

2 min: Blackpool 1 Watford 0 - Ben Burgess gives Blackpool the lead, moving the hosts away from the bottom three and threatening Watford's place in the top six.

4 min: Charlton 1 Coventry 0 - Luke Varney puts Charlton ahead to keep Coventry in relegation danger.

8 min: Crystal Palace 1 Burnley 0 - Scott Sinclair from the penalty spot.

8 min: Bristol City 1 Preston 0 - Lee Trundle opens the scoring for play-off-bound City

9 min: Sheffield Wednesday 0 Norwich City 1 - Darren Huckerby shocks a packed Hillsborough by giving Norwich the lead and threatening Wednesday survival hopes.

10 min: Crystal Palace 2 Burnley 0 - Neil Warnock's side are almsot assured of a play-off plavce after just 10 minutes as Victor Moses makes it 2-0.

11 min: Scunthorpe 0 Colchester 1 - Kevin McLeod scores in the battle of the relegated sides.

15 min: Scunthorpe 1 Colchester 1 - Jonathan Forte equalises for the hosts.

16 min: Bristol City 2 Preston 0 - Former Doncaster winger Michael McIndoe doubles City's lead.

19 min: Charlton 2 Coventry 0 - Coventry are in relegation danger on 53 points and now with a mountain to climb after Andy Gray's goal.

21 min: Charlton 2 Coventry 1 - But the Sky Blues strike straight back through Michael Mifsud

23 min: Sheffield Wednesday 1 Norwich 1 - Deon Burton equalises from the penalty spot to relieve the tension at Hillsborough. Wednesday are now back in the survival driving seat.

23 min: Southampton 0 Sheffield United 1 - The Blades' play-off hopes are still alive thanks to Stephen Quinn's 23rd-minute goal. As it stands, Southampton will be relegated and Sheffield United are in the play-off places.

37 min: Crystal Palace 3 Burnley 0 - Tom Soares adds a third and all-but seals a play-off place for Neil Warnock's men.

42 min: Southampton 1 Sheffield United 1 - Marek Saganowski equalises for the hosts, but as it stands, the Saints are still going down. United are now out of the top six, their place taken by Watford.

44 min: Cardiff 1 Barnsley 0 - Paul Parry opens the scoring for the FA Cup finalists against Simon Davey's men.

Half-time: As it stands, Stoke City will be promoted with West Brom. Hull City, Bristol City, Watford and Crystal Palace make up the play-offs, while Southampton will be relegated.

47 min: Scunthorpe 1 Colchester 2 - Scott Vernon restores Colchester's advantage.

48 mins: Scunthorpe 1 Colchester 3 - Kevin McLeod's second goal a minute later puts Colchester out of sight.

48 mins: Charlton 3 Coventry 1 - Grant Basey makes it 3-1, leaving Coventry hoping for at least one of Leicester, Southampton or Sheffield Wednesday to lose so they stay up.

49 min: Cardiff 2 Barnsley 0 - Kevin McNaughton doubles Cardiff's lead.

51 min: Bristol City 3 Preston 0 - David Noble trebles Bristol's lead.

53 min: Sheffield Wednesday 2 Norwich 1 - Ben Sahar strikes to give Wednesday a real chance of survival.

53 min: QPR 0 West Brom 1 - De-Heon Kim edges West Brom towards the title.

53 min: Southampton 2 Sheffield United 1 - Stern John takes Southampton out of the drop zone, dumping Leicester in the bottom three, and all-but ending Sheffield United's hopes of the play-offs.

60 min: Blackpool 1 Watford 0 - Darius Henderson sent off for Watford.

61 min: Crystal Palace 4 Burnley 0 - Scott Sinclair seals Palace's play-off spot.

62 min: Blackpool 1 Watford 1 - Tommy Smith equalises for Watford, keeping alive their hopes of the play-offs and leaving Blackpool still looking over their shoulders.

63 min: Cardiff 3 Barnsley 0 - Joe Ledley secures the points for the FA Cup finalists.

65 min: Crystal Palace 5 Burnley 0 - Clinton Morrison makes it five.

65 min: Southampton 2 Sheffield United 2 - Jon Stead equalises for the Blades, keeping alive their play-off hopes and dumping Southampton back into the bottom three.

67 min: Scunthorpe 2 Colchester 3 - Paul Hayes pulls a goal back.

69 min: Southampton 3 Sheffield United 2 - Stern John's second goal moves Southampton back out of the relegation zone again.

70 min: Ipswich 1 Hull 0 - Alan Lee, the former Rotherham striker, dents Hull's automatic promotion hopes and gives Ipswich a play-off lifeline.

76 min: Sheffield Wednesday 3 Norwich 1 - Wednesday are almost safe after Burton bags his second goal. Leicester are the team in the bottom three, but a goal for them at Stoke would see Coventry drop into the relegation zone.

77 min: QPR 0 West Brom 2 - Former Sheffield Wednesday winger Chris Brunt clinches the title for the Baggies.

82 min: Scunthorpe 3 Colchester 3 - Paul Hayes's second goal caps a fine second-half comeback for Scunthorpe.

82 min: Southampton 3 Sheffield United 2 - Stern John sent off for Southampton. If United equalise, Southampton will be going down.

86 min: Charlton 4 Coventry 1 - Chris Powell makes it four with Coventry now hoping Leicester don't score at Stoke, otherwise they will be down.

87 min: Sheffield Wednesday 4 Norwich 1 - Leon Clarke ensures another season in the Championship for Sheffield Wednesday with the fourth goal. They leapfrog Norwich and a host of other teams and are set to finish 16th.

87 min: Wolves 1 Plymouth 0 - Wolves still have a chance of making the play-offs after a goal from Seyi Olifanjana.

Full-time: Sheffield Wednesday 4 Norwich 1 - Owls are safe.

Full-time: Ipswich 1 Hull 0 - Hull finish third.

Full-time: Scunthorpe 3 Colchester 3.

Full-time: Cardiff 3 Barnsley 0 - Barnsley end season on 55 points.

Full-time: Crystal Palace 5 Burnley 0 - Palace in the play-offs.

Full-time: Bristol City 3 Preston 0 - City in play-offs.

Full-time: Blackpool 1 Watford 1 - Blackpool safe, Watford take final play-off spot by just one goal from Wolves.

Full-time: Stoke 0 Leicester 0 - Stoke promoted, Leicester relegated to third tier for first time.
