The England and Wales Cricket Board - who will meet on Thursday, 3.30pm, at Old Trafford to make a decision - called off the match after discovering the visitors had fielded an ineligible player during the group stage of the competition.

Regan confirmed this morning that Yorkshire had failed to correctly register 17-year-old Azeem Rafiq as a first-teamer.

Regan claims the ECB were prepared to backdate his registration but then discovered he did not hold a British passport.

It was the combination of both factors which led to the postponement of yesterday's match and Regan has held his hands up over the affair which could affect Yorkshire's chances of qualifying for the highly lucrative Twenty20 Champions League.

"Ultimately, the buck stops with me. I'm responsible for running the club," Regan said.

Asked whether he would consider his position, Regan countered: "I don't think making a scapegoat of someone is what this matter is all about."

Yorkshire have to travel across the Pennines to Old Trafford to answer the allegations at a discipline commission panel on Thursday.

The business of the meeting will be to ascertain Yorkshire's responsibility for the apparent inappropriate registration of Rafiq.

It is anticipated Thursday's hearing will conclude with a decision over whether Yorkshire must replay their match against Nottinghamshire - which saw them qualify for the last eight at their opponents' expense - be ejected from the competition, or some other course of action followed.

The panel at Old Trafford will be chaired by Judge Edward Slinger, with James Pickup QC and Simon Schanschieff also sitting - and the ECB have also tonight confirmed they will issue a fresh statement after the hearing.
