KETTERING player-manager Lee Harper promised that he and his team-mates would give it their "best shot" after they were offered a potential FA Cup third-round tie with Manchester United.
Blue Square Premier side Kettering must knock out League One leaders Leeds United first, after the two teams drew 1-1 at Rockingham Road yesterday afternoon.

"It will be really hard but we will give it our best shot," said Harper. "We've got an enormous task ahead of us before we start thinking about getting there (Old Trafford) yet.

"The club is in a bit of trouble at the moment, it is difficult for us financially but we will go to Elland Road, try to have a great time and see where it gets us," he said.

The lure of facing the reigning Barclays Premier League champions at Old Trafford is an upturn in fortune for the Poppies, who face being turfed out of their home in the next three years.

Leeds manager Simon Grayson insisted he was not surprised by how hard Kettering made the FA Cup second-round tie for his Leeds team and knows the replay will also be difficult.

The Blue Square Premier side took a shock lead through defender Ian Roper but Jermaine Beckford grabbed a deserved equaliser for the Whites 12 minutes from time to earn the replay.

And with the prize of playing great rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford in the third round awaiting the winners, Grayson was remaining cautious.

"Kettering are a good team," he said. "They are not at the top end of the Conference for no reason at all.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult game and we prepared as if we were playing Liverpool. That's how we always do it.

"We'll also treat them very seriously when we play them again in 10 days time.

"We've got to concentrate on what we're doing. We do that no matter who we are playing.

"If we're anywhere near our best we feel we've got a good chance of winning the game."

And the prospect of facing Manchester United?

"It's a fantastic draw," added the Leeds boss. "For either us or Kettering to get through. Obviously we want to be there for Manchester United but we've got to get through Kettering first. Clearly, this is a big incentive for both teams as I said and it's one that we will all be looking forward to .

"This is what the FA Cup is all about. That's why there is so much interest in it and the draw that has been made, but, yes, it's a fantastic incentive for both teams."

"We've got a couple of games before the replay, however, a league game on Tuesday and then Saturday, so we've got to concentrate on them first and keep in the professional manner that we did today and then look forward to hopefully playing Manchester United."

Leeds had enough chances to win two or three games but did not take them as Beckford crashed an effort against the crossbar before Robert Snodgrass, who had earlier seen a header cleared off the line, also struck the outside of a post as they dominated the first half.

However, Kettering's moment arrived when Roper rose to head home Richie Partridge's free-kick.

Poppies player-manager Lee Harper had to save brilliantly from Jason Crowe and Michael Doyle but the pressure eventually proved too much as Beckford got the final touch on Snodgrass's fierce ball into the danger zone to give Leeds a deserved equaliser.

Kettering were not the only non-league side paired with
Premier League opposition, with York City, who beat Cambridge 2-1 on Saturday, handed an away tie at Stoke City.

Elsewhere, the draw saw holders Chelsea lined up against Watford while West Ham's tie with Arsenal is one of three all-Premier League fixtures. The other two see Aston Villa host Blackburn and Hull City travel to Wigan.

Conference South side Staines Town, who forced a replay with Millwall at Wheatsheaf Park, have the incentive of a home tie with Derby.

Of the remaining Yorkshire clubs in the draw, Huddersfield will get the opportunity to test themselves against Championship high-flyers West Bromwich Albion, Doncaster must travel to Brentford, the two Sheffield clubs are both at home with Blades taking on QPR and the Owls handed the task of facing Crystal Palace.

Barnsley must go to Scunthorpe while Rotherham have a trip to Southampton to look forward to if they can beat Luton in their second-round replay.
