Rana Naved-ul-Hasan could make his Yorkshire debut against Scotland tomorrow, a fortnight earlier than had been expected.
The fast bowler, recuperating from a dislocated shoulder, flew in to Manchester from Pakistan yesterday and will be assessed by Yorkshire's staff at Durham today. He is set to travel with the squad to Edinburgh tonight and if the club decide he is re
ady, he will play in the Friends Provident Trophy match. The likelihood is that Rana will not play, although Yorkshire – who lost by 295 runs to Durham inside three days yesterday – hope he will be fit for Wednesday's Championship match against Surrey.
Director of cricket Martyn Moxon said: "I wouldn't like to say that he will play against Scotland, because we haven't seen him. We'll see how he is when he arrives.
"We've got to assess whether he is physically fit and whether he is match fit. He has been playing club cricket in Pakistan but until we see him, we can't be sure whether he is ready.
"It's unlikely that he will play against Scotland but we will see how he goes for the Oval."
Rana, one of the most effective bowlers in county cricket over the last few years, will be on a reduced contract at Headingley Carnegie until Yorkshire are satisfied that he is fully fit.
