A DEVASTATING six-minute spell handed Arsenal a hat-trick of league and cup doubles as they crushed Leeds United 4-1 in the Women's FA Cup final at the City Ground.
Second-half goals from Kelly Smith (54), Jayne Ludlow (58) and Lianne Sanderson (60) broke United's resistance, led by a heroic display from goalkeeper Carly Telford.
Jessica Clarke quickly (68) pulled one back, but Smith (83) ensured there would
be no comeback.
Arsenal dominated but Rick Passmoor's team somehow emerged from the first period with their goal intact thanks to a combination of poor finishing and a string of incredible saves from Telford.
As the second half began it was Leeds, without an attempt of note in the first half, who had the first chance through captain Jess Wright, whose volley was blocked by Ludlow.
England striker Smith then set Arsenal on the way before Ludlow and Sanderson struck.
Leeds got their reward with 21 minutes remaining. Sue Smith showed tenacity to create space for an audacious lob over Emma Byrne. The effort crashed off the upright and Clarke reacted quickest to head home.
Arsenal had the final say, however, as Smith tapped in.
