Ricky Hatton believes Kell Brook deserves a shot against Amir Khan in a bout that could fill Wembley.

Sheffield’s Brook has been targeting Khan for years but was again passed over as the former Olympic silver medallist chased a world title in New York on Friday night.

Unbeaten Brook instead fights Frankie Gavin in London on Saturday night, and while former world champion Hatton believes Khan is right to target superstars Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, he should not be allowed to dodge Brook forever.

“You can’t blame Amir Khan for not wanting to try and get the Mayweather or the Pacquiao fight but I think if the Mayweather or Pacquiao fight doesn’t come off then for Khan the best fight out there for him is Kell Brook,” said Hatton, who lost just three times in 48 fights, two of which came against Mayweather and Pacquiao.

“You had George Groves and Carl Froch getting 80,000 at Wembley and if they can get 80,000 at Wembley, you can’t tell me that Kell Brook and Amir Khan can’t.”

But Hatton insists if such a super fight is to happen, Brook can ill afford a slip-up on Saturday night.

“It’s one of those fights where Kell is expected to win and sometimes those are the worst ones for you to be honest,” said Hatton, 36.

“We all know what Frankie is capable of, Kell should win but if Kell takes him lightly he can get beat.

“He’s got to be on his game and treat it like it’s Floyd Mayweather he’s fighting in there because Frankie Gavin on his day is very very capable, but you’d have to go with Kell.”
