Carver swoops as run outs leave Scarborough stunned

Karl Carver grabbed victory for Sheriff Hutton Bridge in a thrilling climax to their match at Scarborough.

Chasing the visitors’ 228, in which Matthew Fisher hit 92, Scarborough reached 219-6 with four overs left. Carver swooped to run out Darren Harland for 73 and picked up two more wickets without conceding a run in the over on his way to 5-44.

With four balls remaining, he struck again, running out last man Richard Ngarva with Scarborough six runs short.

York continue to head Yorkshire Premier North after crushing Castleford. Charlie Elliot, Jack Leaning and Tom Pringle picked up three cheap wickets as the hosts fell for 99 before Leaning (47no) clinched the eight-wicket win.

Andrew Simpson (65) and Tom Appleyard (54no) steered Hull to 210-9 and Jahangir Alam (4-43) and Jack Storey (4-36) bowled out Acomb for 160.

Alec Drury (5-57) helped restrict Harrogate to 226 and a third-wicket stand of 118 between Ali Asad (78) and Sam Drury (88no) put Driffield Town on the way to a five-wicket win.

Brothers Andrew (50) and Chris Bilton (77no) helped Woodhouse Grange passDunnington’s 184-9 with seven wickets in hand and half-centuries from Stuart Boyle and Alex MacQueen were the highlight of Stamford Bridge’s 231-8 which proved too much for Yorkshire Academy despite Jordan Thompson 71 not out.

There was a thrilling finish in the Bradford Premier League match at Morley where Johnny Whiteoak (6-53) had the home side on the rack but a 77-run seventh-wicket stand between Colin Nuthall (43) and Luke Heinemann (77) helped them to 173.

Lightcliffe reached their final over still needing six runs but Henry Rush bowled Rob Burton and ran out Mark Horne off the final ball leaving the sides tied.

Andrew Bairstow blasted seven fours and seven sixes in his 109 not out and with Gareth Phillips (77) helped Pudsey Congs to 247 but steady batting from Farsley, led by James Pickles (56), Dan Hodgson (61) and Greg Pickles (70no) saw them home by five wickets.

Jack Edgar (110no) and Matthew Walker (45no) steered Bradford & Bingley to 242-5 and Walker weighed in with 5-69 as Cleckheaton were dismissed for 227, Chris Holliday (68) and James Lee (51) the main scorers.

Gary Fellows (49) gave Hanging Heaton a firm foundation and Nick Connolly (68no) and Joe Fraser (36no) took them past Scholes 178 total.

A 4-4 spell, including two in three balls from James Middlebrook, helped bowl out East Bierley for 123 and put New Farnley on the way to an eight-wicket win, while Mark Robertshaw (97) and Steven Watts (5-37) were the heroes of Pudsey St Lawrence’s 25-run win over Woodlands.

Akila Isanka hit 70 off 51 balls and taking 3-37 as Wakefield Thornes beat Doncaster by 95-runs to be one of just two Yorkshire South Premier sides with a 100 per cent record.

The other is Appleby Frodingham, though they made harder work of passing Treeton’s 138, in which Duncan Heath took 4-16 and Jack Forrester 3-25.

Bilal Anjam (75) shared stands of 92 with Azeem Rafiq (68) and 78 with Matthew Taylor (57) as Sheffield & Phoenix set a 375-9 target which out of reach for Rotherham despite the efforts of Irfan Mirza (63).

Jonathan Trower (51) and Zohaib Ahmad (101) starred in Barnsley’s 208-7 before dismissing an under-strength Sheffield Collegiate for 124.

Harry Warwick (57no) and Ian Mansfield (28no) saw Cleethorpes past Wickersley’s 191-7 with six wickets to spare.
